Book Review: My Husband’s Wife

My book club (Literary Gems) just finished reading thi book title. It was our club read for the month of September. We had an online discussion last week (2nd Saturday of this month). I did not manage to finish the book in time for the discussion so I did not participate. I thought I would finish the rest of it this week but I threw in the towel. I Did Not Finish (DNF) it.

At some point I felt guilty for not finishing it and even shared my sentiments with the book club members. And I had this question for them: Does it make you any less of a reader if you don’t finish reading a book?

One of the members asked me to write a review of not less than 500 words on why I did not finish this book and guess what? I don’t think it’s going to get to 300 words.

Here is why I did not finish the book: I had a difficult time with the narrative structure. I still don’t know what the plot was all about. I got to half way after 12 years and one chapter later, I was done!

The book was void, as in I had no emotional connection with the characters, I had none that I was rooting for, whose character would help me journey with the story line to the end. The character development, which is the most important aspect for me in a book did not work for me.

  1. Sorry to hear about your experience with this book but you are right about all the characters being unlikable. I only liked young Carla but that was it.
